“Canada is the work of God”

such was the happy observation of Father Jérôme Lalemant in 1663, when he was superior of the Jesuits in Canada.  The extraordinary intervention of God, the Virgin Mary, and other saints in the evangelization of this country was such that no one could ever convince the missionaries of the contrary.  Had this country not been consecrated to the Lord as early as 1534, when Jacques Cartier officially planted the first cross in the name of the King of France?  Didn’t this man from Saint-Malo also unconsciously consecrate a place in the country to the Virgin of the Rosary when he planted another cross at the three rivers on October 7, 1535?

The wonderful story of the Virgin of Cap-de-la-Madeleine is one of the most beautiful manifestations of this benevolence of the Blessed Virgin towards the Canadian people.  In the 19th century, while many European countries were rejecting their Christian roots, the faith of Canadians was in full bloom.  This revival was due in large part to the many graces that the Virgin Mary lavished on the country through Father Luc Désilets.  This is why Pope Saint Pius X did not hesitate to crown the Virgin of Cape Town as the Madonna of Canadians.

All those who discover the many forgotten prodigies of Our Lady of the Cape, will be able to take up the words of King David “He has not done this for any nation” (Pasalm 147, verse 20).
